Menstrual Leave Is A Thing In Some Countries…
A leading doctor believes that women who suffer with their periods each month should get paid leave.
Gedis Grudzinskas, a professor in obstetrics and gynecology, believes menustrual leave would help boost motivation for women who suffer from painful periods.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, the Harley Street doctor said: “’Some women feel really grotty when menstruating. Coming into work is a struggle and they feel lousy. This is about employers being sensible and aware.”
He proposes that employers should offer an extra 2-3 days, on top of sick leave, to all female employees.
His idea isn’t that radical – workplaces in countries such as Japan, Korea and Asia already offer such entitlements to their employees, while Canada is currently discussing implementing the concept.
Grudzinskas’ comments come quite soon after companies such as Google and Apple have proposed the option of egg freezing for those employees worried about their fertility.
While many see such measures as helping women forge their way in the workplace, others say it merely marks the difference between men and women even more, and that male colleagues may become bitter at their female counterparts having more ‘leave’.
What do you think? Would you take menstrual leave?
