Power Pouts: Four Women Talk Lipstick Confidence

You’re getting ready in front of the mirror; what’s the last thing you do? Is it a spritz of hairspray, or a final dusting of blusher? For a lot of women, applying a slick of lipstick is the final touch. In fact, 65% of women wear it daily, according to Lipsource.

So, why the hype? Well, lippy has long been synonymous with feeling empowered; a notion that Lipcote is very passionate about. Their #LockYourLook campaign is all about sealing the looks you love and working them with pure confidence – something the brand has been encouraging for over 70 years.

Now, confidence is one thing but does our relationship with makeup run much deeper? Our very own PP beauty crew get real about their own self esteem, strength and what lipstick means to them…

Rebecca, 34: “Lipstick gives me the confidence to smile, even when I forget to.”

What’s your go to shade?
I have SO many… deep reds, berries and purples.

How does lipstick makes you feel?
It makes me feel 100%, even when I’m not. It makes me feel like a movie star when I feel less than a million dollars.

Who’s your celebrity lipstick icon, and why?
Rita Ora and Margot Robbie. They make classic shades look cool and edgy, and I love that.

What does wearing lipstick mean to you?
My grandparents used to say it made me look like a 1940s movie star. So, ALL the feels

Katie, 27: “If I forget my lipstick on a night out, I’ll go home and get it!”

What’s your go to shade?
Deep red. I’ve finally found my perfect shade after searching for weeks.

How does lipstick makes you feel?
Complete, fruity and feminine.

Who’s your celebrity lipstick icon, and why?
Gwen Stefani! I love the contrast between her made-up face, and then her 90s tomboy dress sense. She’s even been quoted saying: ”I’m the girl who would wear baggy jeans, but didn’t forget to put on tons of makeup.”

What does wearing lipstick mean to you?
To me, it embraces a side of my sexuality. It gives me extra confidence and a feeling of empowerment.

Tiffany, 29: “Lipstick gives me confidence”.

What’s your go to shade?
Bright corals and vibrant reds.

How does lipstick makes you feel?
Feminine, confident and bouji AF.

Who’s your celebrity lipstick icon, and why?
Marilyn Monroe, because she’s a powerful woman who oozes sex appeal and sass.

What does wearing lipstick mean to you?
It means the finishing touch. I could be wearing the most basic and bland outfit, but if I have my lips on, I feel complete in any situation and in front of anyone.

Laura, 35: “Taylor Swift has great lipstick game.”

What’s your go to shade?
Coral, or pillar box red.

How does lipstick makes you feel?
Fun, flirty and fabulous!

Who’s your celebrity lipstick icon, and why?
Taylor Swift has great lipstick game.

What does wearing lipstick mean to you?
Wearing lipstick signifies a glamorous night out, or I use it to add color to a dull day, or dull skin.
