How To Do Winged Eyeliner Like A Pro

The iconic cat eye – or winged eyeliner – is one beauty technique we are still trying to master. It can be time-consuming and tricky: hands up who HASN’T been late for work because they’ve been standing in front of a mirror with their tongue poked out? Definitely one part of your routine not to try on the tube. Our simple tutorial will show you how to apply winged eyeliner like a pro. You’ll never be late for work again.

You may remember July’s box contained your very own gel eyeliner to practice with. This waterproof liner from Bellapierre is 100% natural, making it a great choice if you have sensitive or easily irritated skin. We love its smooth texture which means you can blend it to create a smoky eye with some gray eyeshadow or use it as a liner for that perfect flick.

Step by Step Winged Eyeliner Tutorial

The experts at Bellapierre reveal how you can nail that flick in four simple steps:

1.  Start by applying liner to the center of the upper eyelid and move outwards. Keep the line as close to your lashes as possible. Starting in the middle will widen your eyes – whereas lining your whole eye will make eyes look smaller.

2. From the outside corner of your eye, draw a line diagonally upwards, around 5mm long, towards the end of your brow. Try not to pull your skin tight – the line will look good while you stretch the skin but it’ll be all over the place when you leave it. To fully open your eyes, make the line slightly thicker towards the tip.

3. From the tip of the line, draw back to your lash line around a third of the way along your eye. If you make a mistake, use a cotton bud with a creamy cleanser on it straight away before it sets – don’t wait until you finish. It’ll be harder to budge.

4. Carefully color in the gap and apply mascara to top and bottom lashes. PS – Need to sharpen your pencil? Because it’s a creamy texture, keep your eyeliner in the fridge before sharpening and make sure you use a proper make-up sharpener.
