Pink Parcel Period Talk: Lizzie, Community Manager

Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. Each week a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing her period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.

This week’s period talk is from Lizzie, our Community Manager.

Hide the potatoes from Lizzie when she has her period

Hide the potatoes from Lizzie when she has her period

My period craving is…

Potato of every variety. Boiled, jacket or roast – topped with cheese, even better!

I know my period is coming when…

When my bras begin to feel tight! My boobs change shape ahead of my period. Actually, they don’t just change shape they SWELL. First comes the ache, then the now not-so surprising growth spurt, and it’s at this point that I bring out my period-friendly bra. It’s two cup sizes bigger than the one my non PSM’ing boobs need.

My first period…

I was really lucky, my first period was pretty well-timed. I had just got back from a family holiday (so no poolside surprises) and I was sat on the best thing I could be – a toilet! Although I was fairly young (11) and the first of my friends to get theirs, I actually felt pretty excited. My mum has always talked to me and my sister very openly about our bodies, periods etc… so it felt strangely familiar. She was at work that night though, so I told my dad instead who told me to ‘wait until your mum gets home.’ So I waited…

My period cringe is (hey, we’ve all had them)…

Day two tends to be the worst/ heaviest day for me. I was in work, it was day two, I was sat at my desk, when all of a sudden I sneezed and felt a leak coming through my skirt and onto the office chair. I had to make it manageable, so I placed my coat over the chair and popped out to by some new knickers!

When I get my period…

Keep busy! My period pains feel worse when I do nothing. Exercise helps too, but never on day two, day two was made for eating potatoes!
