Pink Parcel Period Talk: Rebecca, Head Of Partner Relations
Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. Each week a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing her period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.
This week’s period talk is from Rebecca, our Head Of Partner Relations.
What’s your period craving?
Anything Dairy Milk, I must definitely contribute to their annual revenue (you’re welcome, Cadbury’s). A sharer bag of Twirl bites (NOT shared of course), maybe some peanut M&Ms if they’re on offer (naughty, Tesco).
I know my period is coming when…
I used to have a grudge with any one or anything. A friend, a colleague, a family member (sorry guys), my washing machine or my car. Then I’ll probably have a cry. And put on half a stone. When I was younger, my periods were always quite irregular, they then evened out in my twenties, then in my early thirties just became horrendous. I’d take over-the-counter painkillers and have to leave work to take a shower. I went on the pill to stop them altogether for a bit, then later found out I had polycystic ovaries. Which explains a lot.
Tell us about your first period…
I was SO excited. I was one of the last of my friends to start. It was about two days before my 13th birthday and I was so excited to be a teenager. It was a big deal for me, I thought it meant I was finally going to be a grown up. When I woke up that morning on the final countdown to the big 1-3, I was over the moon it had arrived, this meant I was going to be a ‘proper teenager’ OMFGZ.
Tell us a period cringe (eg swiping sanitary pad thinking it was work pass, bleeding on clothes, school embarrassing story…whatever you like)
Oh I’ve had plenty over the years. This is the worst. I went to drama school when I was a teen and came back from an after-school session only to look in the mirror and realise I had leaked all over my pastel green jeans (ssh, they were a thing). I hadn’t even noticed. And I was in a class with BOYS.
Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is… (sleep, slob out in PJs, go for a swim…)
All the snacks. All the films. And a really hot bath (not all at once). I also love to sleep with a hot water bottle between my legs (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it).
