Pink Parcel Period Talk: Amy, Customer Services Executive

Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. Each week a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing her period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.

This week’s period talk is from Amy, our Customer Services Executive.

You’ll find Amy sobbing over Pride and Prejudice when she has her period.

My period craving is…

Definitely chocolate! And everything carb related, it’s the only way to get through the worst week of the month!

I know my period is coming when…

The stomach and back ache starts and then I start crying at everything and anything. I am usually very upbeat and positive but when I’m due, I don’t know what happens! My hormones just take over and that’s it, I’m a wreck!

My first period…

I was 12 and it was the summer holidays, I went to Thorpe Park with my friend from primary school for her birthday with her Dad. I remember we were queuing for the rides and I kept thinking I had wet myself or something but because we didn’t want to lose our spot, I just waited it out. I eventually went to the toilet and I didn’t know what to do! I just saw it there and I had NOTHING on me, I couldn’t ask my friend because I was too scared she’d tell her Dad so I had to wait til I got home. I had completely forgotten what you even had to do when I started so my younger sister had to show me how to open a sanitary towel etc – so embarrassing.

My period cringe is (hey, we’ve all had them)…

Not long after I had started my period, I was in school and wasn’t really sure how many tampons I needed to get me through my cycle so typically, I ran out of tampons and I didn’t realise until I was in the toilets. I called out to my friends to give me a tampon, who were in the toilets with me, but it turns out they left without me realising! The only person in there happened to be my head of year so she popped one under the door for me and as you can imagine, that was mortifying for me at the time. Looking back now, I’m sure she didn’t really care but I was so embarrassed, I avoided her for the rest of my time at school.

When I get my period…

I like to relax. So, hot bubble bath, my hot water bottle and watching sad films so I can entertain my crazy hormones and cry for a good hour or so (P.S I Love You, Edward Scissorhands, Pride And Prejudice are my typical crying films – should you need any suggestions).
