Which Teas Help With PMS Symptoms?

Do you suffer when your period’s due? We know, it’s the worst, but what if we told you to sit back, relax and try a lovely cup of tea for PMS symptoms. Seriously – we’re all about brewing up one of these delicious blends to help combat those pesky premenstrual symptoms.

Ginger tea for PMS cramps

Ginger has been found to be as effective as ibuprofen in treating period pain with studies showing it relieves both pain and nausea. We love a fiery ginger tea, but if you don’t like the taste of ginger just soak a towel in hot ginger tea and hold the compress over your tummy for the same benefit.

Peppermint tea for PMS bloating

Banish that dread bloat with a cup of peppermint tea. It also soothes the tummy and helps with any unwanted gassiness (is it ever wanted?). It’s also great for an IBS issues and when your period does arrive, the menthol in the peppermint relaxes the uterine muscles to ease menstrual cramps.

Dandelion tea for PMS boobs

If you get swollen, sore breasts, you definitely need to ditch regular tea and coffee – caffeine can make breast tenderness worse. Stick to decaffeinated tea or try dandelion tea. Its diuretic properties help shift extra water that can make breasts swollen – reducing the pressure and tenderness.

Chamomile tea for PMS irritability

If you’re feel anxious, stressed or irritable  a cup of chamomile tea can help. Chamomile is also known to ease insomnia, aiding a restful night’s sleep, and is great for when you feel a cold is coming on as it boosts your immunity.

Raspberry leaf tea for heavy bleeding

Normally recommend for pregnant women about to give birth, raspberry leaf tea contains fragine, which is known to tone the uterine and pelvic muscles. For pregnant woman it leads to a shorter labour but if you’re just suffering from heavy bleeding it can help to decrease flow and stop those nasty cramps.

Green tea for PMS spots

Green tea has numerous health benefits but did you know it can help with PMS related pimple outbreaks? It’s all thanks to the antioxidant cathechin EGCG, which is a great anti-inflammatory. As well as sipping on green tea throughout the day, you can also dab wet teabags onto the affected areas for the same result.
