Get PMS Headaches? Here’s How To Give Them The Finger!
Suffering from a crippling PMS headache? Here are seven ways to help get rid of those mind-bending pains…
You might not fancy it, but a study by the University of Munster in Germany found that over 50% of migraine sufferers who had sex during their headache saw their symptoms improve. This could be because sex triggers endorphins (happy hormones) which act as natural pain relievers.
Too little and too much sleep can make headaches worse so try and get your sleeping habits into a regular pattern, especially before your period starts. This might mean cutting down on your snoozing though, sorry…
Stress makes headaches worse so try meditating or go to a yoga class when you know it’s on its way. This helps release tension and improves circulation around the body, which can help with the pain. The Cat pose, Child’s pose and a seated twist are all positions proven to relieve the feeling of a vice around your temples.
The daisy-like plant Feverfew has been found to improve headaches. It works by widening the blood vessels, which encourages a better flow of blood and relieves pain and tension. It’s not all that tasty though so go for capsules instead of a bitter brew.
While your hormones can make your headache worse, not drinking enough water could also trigger them. Make sure you drink two litres of water a day to ensure that dehydration is not the reason behind your pain.
NICE – or the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence – recommends a ten week course in acupuncture for those who suffer from headaches. So, how do a load of needles help? Acupuncture increases blood flow and endorphins, both of which help relieve the symptoms of menstrual headaches.

If the above tips don’t give you any relief, it’s time to book an appointment with a doctor. They can prescribe stronger painkillers or even oestrogen supplements to help keep levels steady and prevent hormone-related headaches.
