Pink Parcel Period Talk: Four Women Talk First Periods

Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. This week, our very own #PPSquad will be sharing what really happened when they got their first period. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.

“When my first period made an appearance I went to my sister’s bathroom, took a tampon from her cupboard and off I went to the tennis court. LOL. Hardcore baby! Although, the tampon wasn’t sitting quite deep enough. I was lucky nothing leaked and thankfully I got the trick pretty quick with the next one.”

Shower shocker

“I had just moved house for about the 3rd time that year and we only had one bathroom downstairs off the kitchen. So I went to have a shower after school, as you do. People would probably think that in the shower would be the best place for your period to start. Erm NO! Obviously, it had started and whilst panicking in the moment, I screamed for my mum, not knowing that all of her friends were round to congratulate her on the move. I ran out of the bathroom, just in my towel into a room full of not only women but middle aged men…”

“Funnily enough, I had my first ever period literally a few weeks after my mum decided to teach me how to put a pad on. How do mums just know?! So, I had come home from a nice normal day of school and went to the toilet. As soon as I looked down I had the shock of my life! I was so confused because I thought I’d hurt myself but didn’t feel any pain. I even questioned whether I had somehow number two’d myself! Then after a few moments of panic I realised what it was likely to be. So I confirmed with my mum and all was good in the end!”

“I started my period quite early – my first was about 3 months after my 10th birthday. My mum always had trouble with hers so she was very open about it all. I knew what to expect and wasn’t shocked or panicked by it at all! I used pads for a while before graduating to tampons, though. In my teens my periods were really heavy and like clockwork, but nowadays they are the opposite end of the spectrum!”
