Pink Parcel Period Talk: Tamsin, Commercial Content Writer

This week’s period talk is from Tamsin, our Commercial Content Writer.

What’s your period craving?

“Standard answer, but chocolate. I’m usually a savoury snack kind of gal, but when I’m on my period, I can’t walk my little legs to Pret fast enough. Their chocolate mousse is heaven on a spoon.”

I know my period is coming when…

“Achy boobs about a week before. I was on the pill for ages, so had little, or no, tell tales signs, other than knowing the exact day to expect my period. The first month pill free, I thought my boobs might fall off (lol, not really, but it was that painful) and panicked that this was going to happen each month. Spoiler alert: it has.”

Tell us about your first period…

“I got my first period just before I left for school one morning. My mum was quite good with the puberty talk, so I knew what was happening. However, this didn’t prepare me for the actual reality. I didn’t want to wear the pad my mum gave me as I felt like it was HUGE (in hindsight, it really wasn’t, and is one I use on my lighter days now), thought I knew best and made do with a pantyliner. The fear crept in just before P.E. and I changed the liner to a pad. I was convinced everyone would be able to tell I was wearing this monstrosity, but of course no one could.”

Tell us a period cringe (we’ve all got one, hey…)

“In over 12 years, I don’t think I’ve had a period cringe. I’m going to massively tempt fate now, aren’t I? I always seem to be bystander to other’s period cringes, though; my luck will run out.”

Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is…

I use it as an excuse to derive from any healthy habits. I want to order cookie dough from Pizza Hut at 10:30pm? I’m on my period. I can’t be bothered to do my daily work out? I’m on my period. I want to go for drinks and it’s only Tuesday? Yes, rum definitely dulls the cramps. Okay, so this isn’t ACTUALLY a medical fact.”
