Pink Parcel Period Talk: Rianna, Junior Graphic Designer

This week’s period talk is from Rianna, our Junior Graphic Designer.


What’s your period craving?

It’s hard enough fighting cravings on a normal day, but on my period it’s the worst. I want it all! Anything sweet or salty, and a lot of carbs.

I know my period is coming when…

My face literally turns into dot-to-dot with the amount of spots I get. My breasts double in size and ache like crazy – like almost in tears crazy aching. The most tell-tale sign though is that my soft, fluffy side comes out. I get so emotional. Want an example? I once cried because I stepped on a snail whilst walking home in the rain. Not just any snail either, a baby snail, and I cried on the phone to my mum saying: “It barely had a life and I killed it”.

Tell us about your first period…

I knew when my first period was coming. I know my body very well, even now. For days I was so self-conscious, checking every time I went to the bathroom. It finally happened one Sunday in church. I felt it, ran to the toilet and BAM! After layering my knickers with tissue, I ran back to my seat and whispered the news to Mum, who then dragged me home to save me. Dad wanted to take me out for dinner to celebrate. Why, I don’t know; womanhood? LOL. But cramps got in the way and kept me in bed.

Tell us a period cringe (we’ve all got one, hey…)

These three phrases that explain it all: Very unexpected, white jeans and no pads. Oh, and it was while I was just walking into work. I think you get the picture.

Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is…

I love to make a hot water bottle and put in under the covers while I have a hot, scented bath. That way, when I get into bed, it’s already nice and warm. Instead of putting the hot water bottle on my tummy I love it on my back while I’m snuggled up with my golden labrador watching endless TV.
