Pink Parcel Period Talk: Rianna, Junior Graphic Designer

Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. Each week a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing her period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.

This week’s period talk is from Rianna, our Junior Graphic Designer.

What’s your period craving?

It’s hard enough fighting cravings on a normal day, but on my period it’s the worst. I want it all! Anything sweet or salty, and a lot of carbs.

I know my period is coming when…

My face literally turns into dot-to-dot with the amount of spots I get. My breasts double in size and ache like crazy – like almost in tears crazy aching. The most tell-tale sign though is that my soft, fluffy side comes out. I get so emotional. Want an example? I once cried because I stepped on a snail whilst walking home in the rain. Not just any snail either, a baby snail, and I cried on the phone to my mum saying: “It barely had a life and I killed it”.

Tell us about your first period…

I knew when my first period was coming. I know my body very well, even now. For days I was so self-conscious, checking every time I went to the bathroom. It finally happened one Sunday in church. I felt it, ran to the toilet and BAM! After layering my knickers with tissue, I ran back to my seat and whispered the news to Mum, who then dragged me home to save me. Dad wanted to take me out for dinner to celebrate. Why, I don’t know; womanhood? LOL. But cramps got in the way and kept me in bed.

Tell us a period cringe (we’ve all got one, hey…)

These three phrases that explain it all: Very unexpected, white jeans and no pads. Oh, and it was while I was just walking into work. I think you get the picture.

Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is…

I love to make a hot water bottle and put in under the covers while I have a hot, scented bath. That way, when I get into bed, it’s already nice and warm. Instead of putting the hot water bottle on my tummy I love it on my back while I’m snuggled up with my golden labrador watching endless TV.

If you haven’t signed up to Pink Parcel yet, it’s time to start enjoying your period! Subscribe here and you’ll have everything you need (and want) sent directly to your door.
