Pink Parcel Period Talk: Lauren, Brand Partnership Exec

Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. Each week, a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing their period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.

This week’s period talk is from Lauren, our Brand Partnership Executive.

What’s your period craving?

“I usually have a huge appetite in the week leading up to my period and will eat whatever I can find, usually lots of chocolate. It’s a good excuse to pig out and I never, ever feel guilty because I can blame my hormones, right?”

I know my period is coming when…

“Apart from the raging appetite, everything annoys me. Way more than usual. I also feel really hideous in everything I wear. To top it off, I get a couple of those hormonal red spots around my chin, which make my mood even worse.”

Tell us about your first period…

“I was about 14 and remember being at school in English class and feeling funny down there, like I was about to poo myself. As soon as the class was over, I went to the loo and realised what it was – although I did actually think it was poo at first. I wasn’t prepared and didn’t want to tell anyone so I stuffed toilet roll in my knickers. When I got home I raided my stash of pads that I’d been collecting since I was ten in anticipation of starting.”

Tell us a period cringe

“My periods are quite light so I haven’t had anything too embarrassing happen to me in public. The one thing I can remember though is being on holiday with my family and it was the first time I had to use a tampon. I didn’t consider that the string might come askew and reveal itself for all around the pool to see. I’m sure no one noticed but I was still quite young and was really embarrassed at the time.  I think I wore denim shorts for the rest of the holiday after that, and I’m pretty sure my Dad kept asking why.”

Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is…

“I eat a ton of chocolate and treat myself to a pampering sesh. I do the whole works – face mask, hair mask and a mani and pedi.”
