Pink Parcel Period Talk: Katie, Illustrator
Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. Each week a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing her period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.
This week’s period talk is from Katie, our illustrator.
What’s your period craving?
When it comes to Marmite I’m in the lovers camp, especially when I’m on my period. I spoon it straight from the jar!
I know my period is coming when…
My bra strap starts feeling a bit tighter. My boobs go up a cup size so I have to abandon the wireless bras for the week and also get my slouchy trousers out. I can’t have anything tight around my bloated belly.
Tell us about your first period…
I was 13 at home and it was like a scene from Jaws. I felt blood trickling down my legs and in a panic I shouted for my mum, who thought it was a good idea to run a bath… Let’s just say a shower would have been the better option. Afterwards, I put my pyjamas on and went downstairs only to be welcomed by my parents and sister all gushing over how I was ‘now a woman’! The next few days consisted of them faffing over me and trying to teach me which pads to use and when to use them.
Tell us a period cringe (hey, we’ve all got one)…
I was at the gym when my period came as a surprise. I thought I was working up a sweat when to my horror I stood up and had leaked all over the seat. To make a bad situation worse, a guy had been hovering around me waiting to use the machine. I grabbed my water bottle and tried to subtly wipe the seat with my sleeve and made a sharp exit. (I can assure you it wasn’t subtle).
Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is…
When my boyfriend or my mum (who calls me 10 times a day) is annoying me, it provides me with the perfect excuse for being a little bit moody and impatient at times. I know I shouldn’t blame my hormones but I do seem to get away with a lot more when I’m on my period. Muahahaha!
