Pink Parcel Period Talk: Laura, Partner Relations Executive
Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. Each week a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing her period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.
This week’s period talk is from Laura, our Partner Relations Executive.
What’s your period craving?
CHOCOLATE! I can eat chocolate any time of day, all day, and during my period this only gets worse. I get really hungry during my period and can be mega grouchy unless I have a constant supply of food.
I know my period is coming when…
My lower back hurts and sometimes I feel a bit nauseous. I can also get a little grumpy and tend to cry at adverts….
Tell us about your first period…
I was thirteen and had been waiting for my period for what seemed like ages! I’d felt really odd all day at school, my back ached and I felt sick. I got home after a long journey on the bus, went to the loo and there it was. I cried, a lot. Then I called my mum who was still at work. Luckily I was already prepared and had some pads at home, so I didn’t need to rush out. My mum came home with chocolate and a hot water bottle, which have been my period staples ever since. I’m an only child and I was embarrassed to tell my Dad, so my Mum let him know. He obviously didn’t know what to say so ended up saying, “I believe congratulations are in order”. Cue some serious cringing from both of us!
My period cringe is (hey, we’ve all had them)…
One day I left college early because my period pains were really bad. My boyfriend, who I had only been dating a few months, suggested I came over to watch a movie to cheer me up. I went over and snuggled up to watch a movie without realising that my period was REALLY heavy. I felt a bit uncomfortable so went to the loo and realised that I had leaked. I was mortified! Luckily I had my pj’s and spare pants so I changed into them, my boyfriend didn’t even notice!
Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is…
I try to do some exercise as it helps with my cramps, which really affect me. Then I like to have a bath with loads of bubbles, put my comfiest pj’s on and put on a weepy movie. This is always accompanied by my trusty hot water bottle and some chocolate!
