Pink Parcel Period Talk: Grace, Customer Service Agent

Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. Each week a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing her period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.

This week’s period talk is from Grace, our Customer Service Agent.

What’s your period craving?

Food. I can’t even attempt to glamourise or categorise it. It’s all the food, all the time.

I know my period is coming when…

I get even ‘sassier’ than usual. My fiery tongue is usually unleashed on my poor mother, who advises tea and an early night. Mums really do know best as the next day my period arrives like clockwork alongside a lengthy apology to all who felt the wrath.

Tell us about your first period…

I was the last of my friends to start my period and while they sweetly, if not slightly patronisingly, ensured me I was ‘so lucky’ I couldn’t help but feel like I was missing out on this exclusive ‘womanhood club’. When I did eventually start, it was all rather average. I was at home and became aware of a slight situation down there. My mum, relieved that I was ‘normal’, rushed to the shops to get sanitary towels and chocolate. And the rest is history…

Tell us a period cringe (we’ve all got one, hey…)

Funnily enough, my worst period cringe happened when I was fairly new at Pink Parcel. I have always had irregular periods, I have also always been forgetful. One day, I arrived at work to realise I had forgotten to use a tampon and leaked everywhere. Luckily, my friend Alice was on hand to save the day. We did an emergency M&S run where I purchased a new pair of pants and some tampons. I sat quietly the rest of the day, half mortified half impressed at how subtly we’d pulled the whole thing off.

Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is…

If I’m not careful my period can turn into a week long pity party. So I try to limit myself to one evening of tears, Twix bars and trash TV before dusting myself off and going about my life fairly normally.

If you haven’t signed up to Pink Parcel yet, it’s time to start enjoying your period! Subscribe here and you’ll have everything you need (and want) sent directly to your door.
