Pink Parcel Period Talk: Catherine, Project Manager

Periods. Half the population gets them, but we never really talk about them. We shuffle to the office loo with a tampon up our sleeve in the manner of someone who’s whipped out a vibrator by mistake. We mouth the words ‘I’ve got my period’ to female friends to avoid making our boy mates uncomfortable – because, y’know, periods. We tell our bosses we’ve got a migraine when really we’re doubled over with stomach cramps, to avoid seeming like a slacker.

We think that needs to change. Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? So each week a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing her period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.

This week’s period talk is from Project Manager, Catherine.

Pink Parcel period talk

Catherine talks all things period.

My period craving is…

Fast food! I spend the whole month avoiding unhealthy food and then out of nowhere I’ll have the strongest craving for a McDonalds or KFC. A soon as I cave in I get the worst food guilt.

I know my period is coming when…

I get more annoyed and have a more negative view on things that normally wouldn’t bother me. I’m quite competitive so if I have a game or training session where I don’t think I performed 100% I will be annoyed at myself all day instead of just looking ahead to the next one.

My first period…

I was camping in France and woke up in the night needing the loo! When I realised, I had to run to my mum’s tent and try and explain without other tents hearing what was going on. I don’t remember it really fazing me, I think I was more annoyed it was while I was on holiday. I had to spend the rest of the week with both my sisters wondering why on earth I’d developed a sudden fear of the sea!

My period cringe is (hey, we’ve all had them)…

I never feel I can ever complain about a period cringe ever again after witnessing the ULTIMATE period cringe which involved a bride on her wedding day with her wedding dress… I will also never see anyone deal with such an issue in a more incredible manner. That girl will forever be the stuff of legend.

When I get my period…

I will slob out for a day but then I get bored. I actually find I can compete best when on my period. Aggression and competitive levels are at a high for me so I will take iron and B12 to make sure energy levels are sustained and then go smash out a training session or competition.
