Pink Parcel Period Talk: Audrey, Group Marketing Director

Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. Each week a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing her period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.

This week’s period talk is from Audrey, our Group Marketing Director.

What’s your period craving?

“I can never say no to a bit of chocolate. I’m not really sure if I actually associate it with period cravings though as I pretty much like it the whole time…”

I know my period is coming when…

“My cycle is very distinct. There’s a lot going on throughout the month and as I’ve gotten older I’ve become a lot more tuned in to my body and what’s going on. For example, mid-month, I can feel things start to kick off with mild cramping, nothing too serious and it’s somehow reassuring to know that things are all in working order. Weirdly, I also get a sweet taste in the back of my throat when I’m close to starting my period. Like lots of women though, when it actually starts it can often be a bit of a surprise. That’s why I love my Pink Parcel. I’ve timed it to arrive just before my period starts and I just stash all the necessary bits in my bag and in the bathroom so when it does start, even if it’s a surprise, I’m never caught short!”

Tell us about your first period…

“I think I was about 13 or 14. I was always eager to grow up and be an adult so I was looking forward to it all starting. We’d also had the various talks at school and I’m sure there was a little book we had to read so I felt pretty clued up. When it actually happened I was at home with my dad and big brother. Mum was away which was pretty unusual. Luckily I knew where she kept her pads so I just sorted myself out, no major dramas, thankfully.”

Tell us a period cringe (we’ve all got one, hey)

“I was on holiday once and I leaked pretty badly half way up a mountain with no facilities for miles. And typically, I was wearing white shorts. I ran to some bushes and used emergency tissue as a pad and luckily I had a pashmina with me so I tied that around my waist which suited the holiday feel. Amazingly I had spare clothes in the hire car so as soon as I was back at the bottom of the mountain in a restaurant, I was all sorted out and sipping a nice cold wine.”

Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is…

“I remember from the beginning being told to have an early night and as someone who loves her sleep I use any excuse to get some shut eye. Just even lying down in bed and relaxing while I watch a bit of TV does the job for me!”
