Call Out Period Shaming On Menstrual Hygiene Day This Saturday

We need to talk about menstruation: why is it holding women and girls back all over the world? That’s the issue that Menstrual Hygiene (MH) day aims to get people talking about this Saturday 28th May.

Why do we need Menstrual Hygiene Day?

How can you support Menstrual Hygiene Day?

This year’s theme is #MenstruationMatters, to everyone, everywhere. The end goal is simple: to allow every woman and girl the opportunity to manage her period in a hygienic way, safely with privacy and dignity. By involving men and boys in the often taboo conversation around periods, MH Day aims to normalise the topic and foster a supportive environment that gives women control over their reproductive choices, their education and career as well as their fundamental right to dignity. Here’s how you can make a difference:

Support it on social media

On Saturday 28 May, show your support by sharing a post like this on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram:

“Every day can be a #goodday, if girls can attend school during their #period. #MenstruationMatters http://menstrualhygieneday.org”

Attend an event

Last year there were 100s of events worldwide in honour of MH Day. You can find out about events in your area here.

Tell your friends

The more people know about MH Day, the more we can open up the conversation, to women and men.
