This Beauty Blogger Faced a Backlash for Using a Sanitary Pad in Her Eyeliner Tutorial

Getting the perfect winged eyeliner isn’t easy – but one beauty blogger has found a unique solution – and it involves a sanitary pad.

Indian blogger @makeupbygeetika posted a video on Instagram earlier this week sharing her innovative approach to the eyeliner conundrum. Her tutorial instructed followers how to stop eyeshadow fallout and get a clean flick using a pad.

In the video, Geetika cuts the top third and bottom third off a sanitary pad and bins the rest. After removing the edges, she sticks one piece under each eye, with the flat edge placed at an angle where the eyeliner will go. She then applies eye make-up as normal, using the edge of the pad to provide the angle of the flick. The pads stop any excess make-up from falling onto the skin, as well as providing a steady base for the eyeliner. You can watch the video below.

However, not everyone was happy about it. Menstruation is considered taboo in many parts of India. In some areas of the country, women are banished from their homes to live in huts outside the villages when they have their periods because they are seen as unclean.

Geetika’s tutorial sparked outrage among these people. They posted comments telling her to ‘respect your country first’ and saying ‘this is not our culture.’

However Geetika had the last laugh: her video was picked up by numerous other people who thought it was a great idea – including @hudabeauty  who have over 15 million followers. Now she says her video has had over 5 million views.

She shared her thoughts on the haters in another Instagram post, writing, “Hate it or love it, I was so psyched to see my post on the use of sanitary pads in The Daily Mail! Thanks to everyone who shared and liked the video to help me get like 5 million views (crazy!) and thanks to all the people who even sent me death threats lol.”

But it’s her final post on the matter which confirmed Geetika’s place as top of our #girlcrush list. The outspoken blogger made it clear what people who didn’t agree with her tutorial could do. We’re with her.
