Just when you thought Jennifer Lawrence couldn’t get any more relatable, she goes and admits to getting her period on Golden Globes day…

Everyone has a period outfit, right? Those go-to elasticated jeggings that are just a little bit easier on your sore, bloated belly, or a long slouchy shirt whose buttons aren’t likely to bail on you when your monthly visitor sets up home in your uterus.

From period pants, to various other wardrobe items thoughtfully allocated to your cycle (that you’d never dream of wearing on a “normal” day at the office) we’ve all got our sartorial solutions for those dreaded 4-7 days of the month.

But ours are far from Dior couture.

Jennifer Lawrence has further cemented her position in our fan girl hall of fame in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar this month, where she candidly describes why she picked that beautiful bias-cut red Dior dress for this year’s Golden Globes. She was on her period.

It’s rare that celebrities admit to menstruating, let alone in Dior, and it’s so refreshing to hear J-Law speak so honestly about her period, and the fact that she too can get a visit from Aunt Flo at the most awkward of times. And we very much doubt that texting her agent to say she needed to “slump on the sofa with Netflix and a giant bar of Dairy Milk instead”, was even an option.

“Plan A was a dress that I couldn’t wear because awards season is synced with my menstrual cycle, and it has been for years,” she says in the May issue.

The actress then goes on to talk us through her Plan B – a more forgiving and comfortable Dior dress.

“And I didn’t have to worry about sucking anything in,” she added. “The other dress was really tight, and I’m not going to suck in my uterus. I don’t have to do that.”

And why should you, Jen.
