Let’s Get Lippy About Gynaecological Cancer

If we asked you about the five gynaecological cancers affecting women, do you think you could name them all, along with some of the common symptoms? Have a go, it could potentially save your life.

Every day in the UK, 58 women are diagnosed with womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval or vaginal cancer, with 21 women sadly dying from a gynaecological cancer every day.

Despite this, there’s still a frighteningly low awareness of gynae health and these types of cancers. It has been proven that the earlier they are diagnosed, the better the survival rate, yet a culture of silence means many women won’t even recognise the signs and symptoms of the cancers, should they happen to them. Pretty shocking, huh?

“We hear all too often that the first time a woman has heard of a gynae cancer is when she’s sitting in a consulting room, receiving the news that they’ve been diagnosed with one,” says The Eve Appeal, the UK’s only gynaecological cancer charity working to educate women and address the stigma surrounding the five gynae cancers.

Here at PP, we too are super-passionate about smashing taboos, speaking up, and arming women (and men) with essential health information, so we’re proud to announce that we’re partnering with The Eve Appeal in their #GetLippy campaign, throughout May.

#GetLippy is all about ‘getting lippy’ on the topic of gynae cancers – talking openly to break down the taboos surrounding these cancers and their symptoms, in a bid to raise awareness and help women to safeguard against them. The fact that we’re being reminded to wear a strong lip all month is an absolute bonus too.

So the campaign’s empowering message is super-simple; during May, buy any product in our specially curated #GetLippy edit on the Pink Shop and you’ll contribute to funding that could save a woman’s life. Go you.

£1 from each £20 order of lipstick, lipgloss or lip pencils from the shop throughout the campaign will be donated to The Eve Appeal’s pioneering research into early detection and prevention of gynae cancers. If that isn’t worth a new lippy shade we don’t know what is.

You can also get all pouty and shouty on social media. Share a #GetLippy selfie or boomerang with your new lipstick, then nominate a friend and text a £3 donation to life-saving research. Don’t forget to rope in your workmates to raise funds too on national Get Lippy Day on 25th May.
