Research has shown an injection of vitamin K could help reduce period pains.

For many years, injecting vitamin K in a specific acupuncture point has been used in Chinese medicine to help women deal with painful periods.

Now a study has been undertaken by researchers at the University of California in San Francisco They injected women who suffered from period pain with vitamin K1 into an acupuncture point on the lower leg.

The women participating in the study not only experienced less pain, but also had the length of their menstrual symptoms reduced.

Vitamin K is often used to help with blood clotting and to strengthen bones as it helps with the absorption of calcium from food. It may help with cramps as vitamin K has been found to relax muscle spasms in the uterus, which is the cause of period pain.

While vitamin K injections aren't for everyone, it can be found in the following foods:

Green leafy vegetables, such as kale

Brussel sprouts

Spring onions

Asparagus

Cucumber

Soy beans

Prunes
