Over the last few years, podcasts have become as ubiquitous as TV, films, and books. They’re immediate, fun, portable and usually free - i.e., ideal for tuning in, and zoning out, on daily commutes, or for when your eyes are just too tired to read an actual page, tbh.

Podcasting has also quickly become the perfect way to communicate a story. Instead of being penned up behind a laptop, typing away, now people are recording everything they have to share, (and in relation to our faves, all listed below, we really do mean literally everything). Ironically, unlike social media, podcast collaborations are also an opportunity for people to talk IRL. Oh, they’re pretty easy to make too - all you really need is a laptop, a phone and some great ideas. Exciting, isn’t it?

However, like Netflix, there are a mind-boggling amount to choose from. Where to begin? Well, since we are such big fans of hearing from women and listening to their stories, we decided female-led shows would be a good place to start. Now, hit the audio waves and prepare your ears for lady-charged lols and awesomeness.

Anna Faris is Unqualified

Along with her producer, Anna Faris invites her funny Hollywood pals (including Allison Janney and Rosie O’Donnell) to help solve listeners' dilemmas. If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry. This is the thinking behind American actress Anna Faris' podcast, who describes it as,“not-great-relationship advice from completely unqualified Hollywood types.” Grab the earbuds and hit download.

Call Your Girlfriend

In a long distance relationship with your best friend? Miss your main girl lots? Then tune into ‘Call Your Girlfriend’. Co-hosted by Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman, and produced by Gina Delvac, this podcast sees Sow and Friedman call each other up each week, to discuss everything that distance prevents them from talking about IRL - like how heavy their menstrual cycle is, or who they are dating, as well as the necessary real-talk only your best girls are qualified to give.

#Girlboss Radio

#Girlboss Radio is an extension of Sophia Amoruso’s all-female community, Girlboss. Expect solid career advice from the Nasty Gal founder, inspirational soundbites, and hilarious conversations that you really won't hear anywhere else. Oh, and the guests aren't too shabby. You'll hear from awesome business women like Gwyneth Paltrow, ban.do’s Jen Gotch and Man Repeller's Leandra Medine Cohen.

Get It Off Your Breasts

Get It Off Your Breasts is a female-led roundtable discussion with a difference. Each week, Emma Gannon and Lliana Bird are on hand (erm, headphones?) to help you get your life together. The pair offer up unfiltered conversations that tackle all the things you actually need to know to get by in an always-on, hyper-connected society.

The High Low

The High Low is co-hosted by The Sunday Times Style's Fashion Features Editor, Pandora Sykes and dating columnist, Dolly Alderton. Together, the friends brand their popular pop-culture and news podcast – which peaked at number two in the UK iTunes chart – as “both the trivial and the political, from errant chin hair to Trumpian politics.” Listen to the duo cover all of this, and everything in between, each week with occasional guest author specials.
