This week’s period talk is from Emma, our Education Assistant.
What’s your period craving?
“When I’m on my period my appetite seems to sky rocket and I could eat my weight in crisps and any savoury snacks! Cheese and biscuits and any carbohydrates go down a treat.”
I know my period is coming when…
“It’s like clockwork, so my diary tells me when my period is coming. But my body also sends little reminders such as putting me through the emotional rollercoaster and I get a dull pain in my tummy.”
Tell us about your first period…
“I was eleven years old and on my way to a dancing weekend. I could feel something not quite right and when I got out of the car my mum noticed the little red mark on my trousers. Luckily she was there to support me – even though I’d had lessons about it in school. The first thing we did was head to the nearest shop and I got a new pair of jeans out of it.”
Tell us a period cringe
“I’m lucky in the sense that I don’t think I really have any period cringes. Yet! However, I have definitely been in the situation where I’ve changed bags and not put the ‘Emergency Pad’ in, and had to resort to the makeshift toilet roll trick until I could get one.”
Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is…
“I really enjoy curling up on the sofa with a good book and lots of snacks. I could hibernate like that for days, but I also try and get along to some dance classes as exercise always makes me feel better anyway, but especially at that time of the month.”
