Periods Pink Parcel

Pink Parcel Period Talk: Kate, Photographer

Wouldn’t it be easier if we were all more open about the perfectly normal bodily function we experience each month? We think so. Each week a member of our very own #PPSquad will be sharing her period stories with you. Read, comment, share your own. Every story is welcome here.

This week’s period talk is from Kate, our photographer.

What’s your period craving?

Chocolate, but specifically melted chocolate. Weird, right? I have been known to bake an entire banana bread & dip it into melted chocolate, consuming the whole thing. It doesn't count if you are premenstrual. FACT.

I know my period is coming when..

Unwillingly, my boobs grow at least a cup size bigger, and they are so sore! My husband is always thrilled (typical) but as a girl who has always preferred a flatter chest, it isnt my favourite time of the month. It also makes running a little uncomfortable so I usually double up on sports bras.

Tell us about your first period..

I was fourteen years old, it was a hot summer Friday night and I was about to go and play outwith my friends until I discovered I had started my period. Panic stations! I was so nervous to tell my Mum, but once I did she showed me where she kept the pads and tampons, told me I had nothing to worry about and I felt on top of the world. I was a WOMAN! A few days later I came home from school to find a book on my pillow all about periods and puberty, it was amazing. I still use references from it now.

Tell us a period cringe...

Not a lot to do with periods makes me cringe. To quote Rachel from Friends I just dont embarrass that easily, however when I was younger things were very different! I remember staying over at an old boyfriend’s house when I was on my period and waking up to find I had leaked on not just the sheets, but the pyjama bottoms he loaned me as well! Mortification aside I had to go and explain the situation to his mum, who was absolutely lovely. Eeek!

Your favourite thing to do when you have your period is...

To feel super sorry for myself! There is nothing better than wrapping up in your duvet, watching 'Keeping up with the Kardashians' re-runs and wallowing in self pity.
