Getting a gorgeous, natural looking glow is the holy grail of skincare – even more so when you've got your period and your skin is a little drier, a little duller and a little less radiant (you can thank your hormones for that).
So what tricks do the beauty experts have up their sleeves to still look glossy and gorge when they're on? Here, professional make up artist Liz Hudson shares her secrets for getting your glow on.
"Exfoliate daily (or every other day if you have sensitive skin) to remove dead skin cells that can make your complexion look dull. I use a homemade one – the natural ingredients are great if your skin is easily irritated around the time of your period. Mix equal parts of coconut oil, brown sugar & filter coffee granules and gently rub over the skin.
"Hydrate the skin during the day by using a water spritzer or spray. I swear by the Shiseido Ibuki Quick Fix Mist as it's cooling and helps to refresh my make up.
"Mix a highlighter in with your normal foundation, BB cream or tinted moisturiser. I use bareMinerals Complexion Rescue: Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream every day but during that time of the month, I mix in a pump of bareMinerals Prime Time Brightening Face Primer to boost my complexion. Keep the consistency the same by just mixing powders with powders and liquids with liquids.
"Bronzer stops you feeling washed out and gives skin a lift, so if you don't use one normally, invest in one that's light in colour compared to your skin tone and buff it onto the outer contours of the face - hairline, temples, under cheek bones, below jawline & not forgetting the neck. It will instantly make you look more alive when all you want to do is hide under the duvet!
"Lips generally feel dryer when you’ve got your period, so make sure to exfoliate them first, then use a generous amount of lip balm and leave to soak in. I love Burts Bees Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm as its soothing and rich but not heavy. Make sure to reapply during the day to keep your pout hydrated".
