Sleep Your Way To A Healthy Body And Mind

When it comes to health and fitness, there's one celebrity you can count on to stay super-strict – the ever-glowing Gwyneth Paltrow.

She puts her lean body down to a healthy diet as well as "sex, exercise and laughing" and is backing one of this year's top health trends – clean sleeping. Sounds like something we can all get on board with, right?

In her book, Goop Clean Beauty, she outlines the theory behind it and says it is simply 'getting at least seven or eight hours of good, quality sleep – ideally even ten' a night. If it's deep and uninterrupted, even better.

Studies have shown this regulates your metabolism, hormones and energy levels making you happier, healthier and slimmer! So how do you fight insomnia, get to sleep peacefully and wake up looking as fresh as the Goop guru?

Here are some helpful tips, courtesy of Gwynnie...

Ban late night snacks

You know that cheeky bag of Maltesers you keep in your bedside drawer? It's got to go. As do the 10pm packets of Mini Cheddars just to tide you over. Why, you ask!? Well, your body cleanses itself overnight, so it's recommended you give it a 12-hour fasting window.

Try psychic sleep

Lay back in bed, shut your eyes and focus on the individual parts of your body. At the same time, move your attention in a circular motion around your limbs and organs - from one hand to your palm, wrist, forearm, elbow, upper arm, shoulder, neck, face, etc, and down the other arm across to the torso, down one leg and up the other. This process puts you in a state that is so close to sleep it's almost impossible not to drop off. It does take some practice though.

Treat your feet

Indulge in some TLC before bed with a three minute foot massage using sweet, thick moisturiser like Cocoa Butter. It will create a deep ‘grounding’ sensation that not only relieves mental tension but makes you feel instantly relaxed.

Create a ritual

A nightly routine helps your body prepare for sleep by easing you from wakefulness to drowsiness. We're suggesting a gorgeous bubble bath and a book to help you drift off into dreamland!
